The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

This book suddenly crossed my mind after reading a lousy book in "Atomic Habits". "Atomic Habits" really disappointed me. As such, I felt there is a need to revisit a book I read 20 years ago. Main thing is, I need to find out whether I really hate "Atomic Habits" that much or simply because this sort of books no more sounds appealing to me...

At the end, this is still the same "amazing" book I read 20 years ago. A reread after 20 years is an incredible journey. After all, when I can re-quote some of the nice quotes below, it clearly showed that this book is still applicable after years. Further to that, although the said 7 habits were practiced over the years, the revision on this book did trigger some new ideas on me particularly as well as my interdependent relationship.

Relatively, "Atomic Habits" do not have this sort of attraction. Well, credit must be given to the author of 7 habits. "Atomic Habits" may not be that bad. Perhaps, the presenting styles and the practical part is not as good as 7 habits.

Out of 10, I have no reason to revise my full rating 20 years ago. This book is still one of my bibles in life and amazingly, it is still perfectly good to maintain all the 7 habits for the rest of my life. Thumbs up and thumbs up to the late Stephen R. Covey!

My experience has been that there are times to teach and times not to teach. When relationship are strained and the air charged with emotions, an attempt to teach is often perceived as a form of judgment and rejection.

A sense of possessing needs to come before a sense of genuine sharing.

Knowledge is the theoretical paradigm. Skill is the how to do and desire is the motivation. In order to make something a habit, we have to have all three.

Effectiveness lies in the balance. Excessive focus on P results in ruined health, worn-out machines, depleted bank accounts and broken relationship. Too much focus on PC is like a person who runs 3/4 hours a day, bragging about the extra 10 years of life it creates, unaware he's spending them running.

There are 3 social maps: Genetic determinism, Psychic determination, Environmental determination to explain the nature of man.

Look at the word responsibility - "response-ability" - the ability to choose your response. Highly proactive people recognize that responsibility.

Proactive people are still influenced by external stimuli. But, their response to the stimuli is a value-based choice or response. It is our willing permission, our consent to what happens to us, that hurts us far more than what happens to us in the first place. It's not what happen to us, but our response to what happens to us that hurts us.

It is our willingness permission, our consent to what happens to us, that hurts us far more than what happens to us in the first place.

In the great literature of all progressive societies, love is a verb. Reactive people make it a feeling.

Proactive people focus their efforts in the Circle of Influence. They work on the things they can do something about. The nature of their energy is positive, enlarging and magnifying, causing their Circle of Influence to increase. Reactive people on the other hand, focus their efforts in the Circle of Concern.

Whether a problem is direct, indirect, or no control, we have in our hands to the first step to the solution. Changing our habits, changing our methods of influence and changing the way we see our no control problems are within our Circle of Influence.

Habit 1 says "You are the programmer." Habit 2, then, says "Write the program." Until your accept the idea that you are responsible, that you are the programmer, you won't really invest in writing the program.

Almost all of the world class athletes and other peak performers are visualizers. They see it; the fell it; they experience it before they actually do it. They begin with the end in mind.

Before a performance, a sales presentation, a difficult confrontation, or the daily challenge of meeting a goal, see it clearly, vividly, relentlessly, over and over again. Create an internal "comfort zone." Then, when you get into the situation, it isn't foreign. It doesn't scare you.

My maxim of personal effectiveness: Manage from the left; lead from the right.

The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities. And this can be done in the context of the week.

The focus in steward delegation is on effectiveness, not efficiency. Certainly you can do it better by yourself, but the key is to empower someone else to do it. It takes time. You have to get involved in the training and development. It takes time, but how valuable that time is downstream! It saves you so much in long run.

The steward relatively compares to gofer focused on results instead of methods. The steward becomes his own boss, governed by a conscience that contains the commitment to agreed upon desired results. But it also releases his creative energies to achieve those desired results.

Real self-respect comes from dominion over self, from true independence. And that's the focus of Habits 1,2,3. Independence is an achievement. Interdependence is a choice only independent people can make. Unless we are willing to achieve real independence, it's foolish to try to develop human relations skills.

I suggest that in an interdependent situation, every P problem is a PC opportunity - a chance to build the Emotional Bank Accounts that significantly affect interdependent production.

Seek first to understand involves a very deep shift in paradigm. Most people do not listen with the intent to understand, they listen with the intent to reply. They're filtering everything through their own paradigms.

As long as the response it logical, can effectively ask questions and give counsel. But the moment the response becomes emotional, one needs to go back to emphatic listening.

The more proactive you are (Habit 1), the more effectively you can exercise personal leadership (Habit 2) and management (Habit 3) in your life. The more effectively you manage your life (Habit 3), the more Quadrant II renewing activities you can do (Habit 7). The more you seek first to understand (Habit 5), the more effectively you can go for synergetic Win/Win situation (Habits 4 & 6). The more you improve in any of the habits that lead to independence (Habits 1,2,3), the more effective you will be in interdependent situations (Habits 4,5,6). And renewal (Habit 7) is the process of renewing all the habits.

There is a gap or space between stimulus and response, and that they key to both our growth and happiness is how we use that space.

Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones

Since "7 habits", I think I never found a book as good as the theory mentioned in 7 Habits. The said 7 habits served me well for the past 20 years to becomes the highly effective people as claimed by the late Stephen Covey. Now, I am into this atomic habits. The topic itself sounds appealing in the first place. Secondly, I was in a forum on books and this book keep on bombarding my fb wall in the said forum. So, here I am with a book that usually would not appear in my book shelf.

At the end... I did not finish this book. This is a boring and dull book. Basically, the four concepts are too simple to practice and I humbly think that this is how I practice my life for the past 20 years. As such, this book does not deliver what I want and I ended up gave up half way.

My expectation on this book was high in the first place. After all, it was highly recommended by all friends in my forum. The so called "atomic" habits are nothing new under the sun. We had this sort of ideas everywhere and perhaps the author only did his best to use the right words to "upgrade" the whole concept. For example, I hate the repeating words of "Laws" being highlighted throughout the book. To me, it is a "principle" at most! Law??? No way...

Finally, this book could have been written in less than 100 pages. There are a lot of repetition and the author mumbling the same stuff over and over again. In fact, this book can easily be sum up by reading the chapter summaries. So, for a full rating of 10, I am going to rate this book at 1. The idea is good (nothing special though), but it is just too wordy to finish it up...

Think and Grow Rich: The 21st-Century Edition: Revised and Updated

I am going to do a short (a very short one) review on this book. The main reason is: this book no more motivates me like those days, haha... In fact, 20 years ago, I love this book so much. However, I did not reread this book after the first read. After all, there is a long list of reread books pending my precious time, haha.

This is the revised and updated version. So, I thought might as well give it a try. At the end, the so called revised and updated parts offered nothing except trying to praise every single content in the book. Examples given in the book are so "lame". Imagine people like Steve Jobs being quoted in the context. Irrelevant, right? I thought the published trying their best to re-brand the whole book. However, the assumptions given just make the whole book worse.

Relatively, I still preferred the original version. At the same time, I decided not to reread this book again in the future. This book shaped my life twenty years ago. However... as the practices in this book become my habit, it totally lost its attractiveness. This book serves as a motivational stuff for youngsters and those who are new into the entrepreneurship. But, for oldies like me, I do not find it inspiring anymore. As such, for a full rating of 10, I am going to rate this book at 1.

Cool Down: Getting Further by Going Slower

After reading a lousy book, time to go for something relaxing... At the end, this book is too relaxing, LOL!

If I am 10-20 years younger, I think I will love this book. Now, at the age of 41, "cool down" stuff no more an issue to me. So, I do not need a book to help me to cool down. I am “cool” automatically, LOL.

Overall, this is a nice book. I strongly recommend youngsters to explore further on this idea especially if you are those who always complaint that 24 hours never enough. Frankly, if I am younger, I may not buy this idea of cool down. But, the older I get, the wiser I am. Now, I truly appreciate the wisdom of "getting further by going slower".

For a full rating of 10, I am going to rate this book at 3. Well, the author did well in presenting the "cool down" stuff. However, this theory no more appealing to me since I already started cooled down few years back. Having said that, I have no hesitation to recommend this book for those who are always hectic in their life. This book could serves as a good solution for busy peoples.

How to Stop Worrying and Start Living

I decided to revisit this book as one of my family members are having trouble to stop worrying. As such, here I am with one of the book that shaped my life in the past.

Ended up... this is still one of the best books I had ever read even though my last read was 20 years ago! Those days when I was young, I might not be able to appreciate so much even though I realize it was an amazing book. Now, in my early 40's I think this book will reshape my life once again!!!

The best part about this book is... it is helpful in all aspects of life from career, marriage, family, etc. Dale Carnegie guides us on how to control ourselves and acts in a way of service to others. The various examples given in the book will help readers to understand the concepts and apply it in their life. This book is essential beneficial to everyone, even for those without the problems of controlling emotional qualities.

I have so many good things to say about this book. As such, I have no hesitation to rate this book at 10/10! In fact, I made up my mind to revisit this book every several years. I think this book will benefit each individual personally and professionally. I highly recommend this book!

Last but not least... such a great book... of course tons of nice quotes as below:

Take thoughts for the tomorrow, yes, careful thought and planning and preparation. But, have no anxiety.

You and I are like hourglass. When we start in the morning, there are hundreds of tasks which we feel that we must accomplish that day, but if we do not take them one at a time and let them pass through the day slowly and evenly, as do the ground of sand passing through the narrow neck of the hourglass, then we are bound to break our own physical or mental structure.

Life is a ceaseless change. The only certainty is today. Why mar the beauty of living today by trying to solve the problems of a future that is shrouded in ceaseless change and uncertainty- a future that no one can possibly foretell?

You do not get stomach ulcers from what you eat. You get ulcers from what is eating you. Ulcers frequently flare up or subside according to the hills and valleys of emotional stress.

Plato said that "the greatest mistake physicians make is that they attempt to cure the body without attempting to cure the mind; yet the mind and body are one should be treated separately!"

Dr Alexis Carrel: "Business men who do not know how to fight worry die young."

If you want to avoid worry, do what Sir William Osier did: Live in "day-tight" compartments." Don't stew about the future. Just live each day until bedtime.

Half the worry in the world is caused by people trying to make decisions before they have sufficient knowledge on which to base a decision. Once a decision is carefully reached act! Get busy carrying out your decision - and dismiss all anxiety about the outcome.

It is difficult to worry while you are busy doing something that requires planning and thinking.

Why does such a simple thing as keeping busy help to drive out anxiety? Because of a law- one of the most fundamental laws ever revealed by psychology. And that law is: it is utterly impossible for any human mind, no matter how brilliant, to think of more than one thing at any given time.

General George Crook- probably the greatest Indian fighter in American history says that nearly all the worries and unhappiness of the Indian came from their imagination, not from reality.

Let's examine the record. Let's ask ourselves: "what are the chances, according to the law of average, that this event I am worrying about will ever occur?"

We are going to meet a lot of unpleasant situations that are so. They cannot be otherwise. We have our choice. We can either accept them as inevitable and adjust ourselves to them, or we ca ruin our lives with rebellion and maybe end up with a nervous breakdown.

President of Chrysler: "When I am up against tough situation, if I can do anything about it, I do it. If I can't, I just forget it. I never worry about the future, because I know no man living can possibly figure out what is going to happen in the future. So, why worry about them?"

One of the reasons was their burning desire to impress you and me. Yes, we are the posterity whose opinion they were worried about! Do we give a hoot? No, we are too concerned with our own problems to waste a minute thinking about them.

Whenever we are tempted to throw good money after bad in terms of human living, let's stop and ask these questions:
1. How much does this thing I am worrying about really matter to me?
2. At what point shall I set a stop loss order on this worry and forget it?
3. Exactly how much shall I pay for this whistle? Have I already paid more than it is worth?

There is only one way on God's green footstool that the past can be constructive' and that is by calmly analysing our past mistakes and profiting by them- and forgetting them.

We need to be concerned about our problems, but not worried. Concern means realising what the problems are and calmly taking steps to meet them. Worrying means going around in maddening, futile circles.

You will quickly discover what William James was talking about- that it is physically impossible to remain blue or depressed while you are acting out the symptoms of being radiantly happy!

Happiness is from within; it is not a matter of externals.

When we hate our enemies, we are giving them power over us; power over our sleep, our appetites, our blood pressure, our health and our happiness. Our enemies will dance with joy if only they knew how they were worrying us, lacerating us and getting even with us! Our hate is not hurting them, but our hate is turning our own days and nights into a hellish turmoil.

If selfish people try to take advantage of you, cross them off your list, but don't try to get even. When you try to get even, you hurt yourself more than you hurt the other fellow.

Even if we can't love our enemies, let's at least love ourselves. Let's love ourselves so much that we won't permit our enemies to control our happiness, our health and our looks.

"To be wronged or robbed," said Confucius, "is nothing unless you continue to remember it."

No one can humiliate or disturb you- unless we let him. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.

Let's never waste a minute thinking about peoples we don't like.

Let's not expect gratitude. Then, if we get some occasionally, it will come as a delightful surprise. If we don't get it, we won't be disturbed.

The most important thing in life is not to capitalize on your gains. Any fool can do that. The really important thing is to profit from your losses. That requires intelligence, and it makes the difference between a man of sense and a fool.

You can be cured in 14 days if you follow this prescription. Try to think every day how you can please someone.

Why will doing a good deed everyday produce such astounding efforts on the doer? Because trying to please others will cause us to stop thinking of ourselves: the very thing that produces worry and fear and melancholia.

If you want to banish worry and cultivate peace and happiness, here is Rule 7: Forget yourself by becoming interested in others. Do every day a good deed that will put a smile of joy on someone's face.

Man is not made to understand life, but to live it.

If we are tempted to be worried about unjust criticism here is Rule 1: Remember that unjust criticism is often a disguised compliment Remember that no one ever kicks a dead dog.

When you and I are unjustly criticized, let's remember Rule 2: Do the very best you can: and then put your old umbrella and keep the rain of criticism from running down the back of your neck.

So, to prevent fatigue and worry, the first rule is: Rest often. Rest before you get tired.

Dr Edmund Jacobson of the University of Chicago has gone so far as to say that if you can completely relax the muscles of the eyes, you can forget all your troubles.

You can relax in odd moments, almost anywhere you are. Only don't make an effort to relax. Relaxation is the absence of all tension and effort. Think ease and relaxation.

"I measure my accomplishments," says Daniel W. Josselyn, "not by how tired I am at the end of the day, but how tired I am not." He says: "When I feel particularly tired at the end of the day, or when irritability proves that my nerves are tired, I know beyond questions that it has been an inefficient day both as to quantity and quality."

A person with his desk pilled high with papers on various matters will find his work much easier and more accurate if he clears that desk of all but the immediate problem on hand. I call this good housekeeping and it is the number-one step towards efficiency.

Keep reminding yourself that getting interested in your job will take your mind off your worries, and in the long run, will probably bring promotion and increased pay. Even if it doesn't do that, it will reduce fatigue to a minimum and help you enjoy your hours of leisure.

Worrying about insomnia will hurt you far more than insomnia.

No man ever committed suicide by refusing to sleep and no one ever will. Nature would force a man to sleep in spite of all his will power. Nature will let us go without food or water far longer than she will let us go without sleep.

More money is not the answer to most people's financial worries. In fact, I have often seen it happen that an increase in income accomplished nothing but an increase in spending- and an increase in headaches. What cause most people to worry is not that they haven't enough money, but that they don't know how to spend the money they have!

I try to see my troubles in their proper perspective. I say to myself: "Two months from now I shall not be worrying about this bad break, so why worry about it now? Why not assume now the same attitude that I will have two months from now?"

The Mental Edge in Trading : Adapt Your Personality Traits and Control Your Emotions to Make Smarter Investments

Larry Williams... a well-known name in the world of trading. This book is written by his son, Jason Williams. Even the father, Larry Williams was shocked by the research done on this book. So, how can I miss it?

At the end... what a well-written book. This book focuses on the human personality and the natural born traits that take every trader to another level. The author tried to find out certain trait that helps to make a successful trader. At the same time, there are certain characters which serve as the major obstacles for traders around the world. In this book, we have insights and deep studies into each character that helps us to become a better trader.

In addition, the author included real life examples by providing tons of studies cases via the dialogue with some well-known traders. I love this part a lot. It tells us how each character trait plays its role. I personally benefited a lot from reading this book. At the end, I found where my strengths and weaknesses are and it helps to improve my mentality as a trader.

On the cons... Unfortunately, the author did not provide further info on how to work on with the traits that we already have. According to him, traits cannot be changed. Hence, we have no choice but to live with it. However, I personally saw the changing of my personality throughout my trading years. In the initial state, perhaps it is so hard to change. However, the cruel side of trading will changed our personalities along the way. I wish the author could elaborate more on this book. Unfortunately, what we have is merely a book with details studies on the subject without much solution.

Rating wise, I am going to rate this book at 6/10. As I mentioned above, this book could be better if the author are more proactive in providing solutions. Overall, it is still a good book to read on. At least, we understand ourselves more and we understand how great traders perform with their naturally born characters.

Some nice quotes from the book:

Every move you make while you trade is surely being watched by the harshest and most critical judge of all: yourself. In trading, generally you are the only one who is putting the immense pressure on yourself to succeed. As the saying goes, you turn into your own worst enemy.

The only way to overcome the anxiety associated with performance is to keep performing the act or behaviour over and over until, it is no longer anxiety-provoking.

The psychological term is "habituation." It means that the more you expose yourself to an anxiety (instead of trying to avoid it), the sooner your body will learn to deal with the anxiety, and the sooner the anxiety will dissipate.

It can be very uncomfortable process to force yourself to remain in an anxiety-provoking situation when your mind is telling you to get out of it. But it is the only way to overcome this problem.

Many traders have difficulty admitting to their spouses or others if they are in bad trade They may either deny it or minimize it. Not just because of the financial setback, but because it may reflect poorly on them as a person.

The best traders have low anxiety levels; this is true. But you need to understand your own strengths and weaknesses and then adapt to them.

Avoid trading systems that are very active in terms of frequency of trades, because you will need time to reset your emotions, and if your trading style is too active, this will not happen.

You feel you are a loser? Use the four S- Stop sign, Shout it out, Substitute, Sustain.

Amateur traders tend to use trading as a distraction from their day jobs, with the hope of changing their current life condition into something more desirable.

"I have no expectation about the results of a trade." In fact, this was a consistent theme we heard over and over while interviewing top market traders. They also frequently make reference to "not doing it for money."

Making a living from the markets is the business objective, and ultimately, if I couldn't earn a living from the markets, I will certainly do something else. But the design process is what I am most passionate about in this work.

As long as I keep my trading style as boring as watching a vegetable garden grow, my anxiety and my anger and my impulsivity are kept under wraps. To me it means having my timing and selection work in a very systematic module.

The Choose Yourself Guide To Wealth

I hardly touch this sort of books. But, a friend of mine recommended this as he said it was better than "The Narrow Road" and "How to get Rich"... wow... must read then...

Ironically, this book is so much better compares to "Trade Like a Hedge Fund". If I rated "Trade Like a Hedge Fund" at zero, this book deserved 8/10. In another words, the author is actually good at writing books. (A speculate author with random results? Hmm...) However, his idea on hedge fund stuff simply reflects his own weaknesses. After all, he admitted that he somehow failed in his hedge fund stuff, be it the operations of hedge fund or his book on hedge fund...

Ok, back to this book... This book inspired me in many ways. The quotes listed below are very much aligning with my thinking:

Engage with nobody who is bad to you. When you get in the mud with a pig, the pigs get happy and you get dirty.

Complaining is draining. When you are anxious, nervous or scared, try to stop yourself and do two things:
1. Repeat to yourself, "I notice I am felling anxious." This distances you from the feeling.
2. Think of at least one new thing you are grateful for.

Increase in salary only offers marginal to zero increase in "happiness" above a certain level. This is because of a basic fact: people spent what they make. So, back you go to the corporate casino for one more try at the salary roulette wheel. I have never once seen anyone save the increase they received in their salary.

When your idea muscle is developed along with the other legs of the Daily Practice - physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual - you'll have a better idea when you should shut things down.

Everybody is a poor predictor of outcomes - from the weatherman, to the stock analyst. But, we can all be good at preparation.

Nobody is going to buy from someone they hate. The buyer has to like you and want to be your friend. People pay for friendship.

The best way to make friends and customers for life is to direct them to a better service or product than yours. Be the source of valuable information rather than the source of your "product of the day".

A bad customer spreads like a disease inside you, your employees, your other customers, your competitors, your future customers, your family, etc.

It seems natural to say "yup" or "right" or "uh-huh" or whatever. But, here are the facts based on studies: people perceive you as stupid when you do this. Just keep quiet when someone is talking.

Everyone around you needs to ultimately become better than you. That's how you lead. The light is in front of you and you take them to the light and then go back.

We do things to hide the pain. Soon, everything in our lives we might think give us pleasure (because we are now avoiding all the pain) is actually just a buffer against pain and change. When you get rid of the buffers against pain and change, life becomes more insecure, but you become free.

Buddha himself realized this about public speaking. He said, "Don't believe me on anything. Try this out for yourself." Hence, always be vulnerable in public speaking. Nobody wants to hear from Invulnerable Man or Ms. Perfect. They want to hear where you are scared and vulnerable and feeling insecure, because we all are.

If you can't walk away from a negotiation, then you aren't negotiating. You are just working out the terms of your slavery.

A way to replenish energy is to live a gentle live. As gently as possible, so your energy grows and is used where it is needed.

Connecting people who can benefit each other is the most useful skill you can have on the entrepreneurial ladder of skills.

You can't get good at something if you are working twenty hours a day. If you just do one thing, the benefits quickly decline and you also ignore the pleasure of becoming well-rounded.

I've asked many others what were they thinking at the rock bottom and the answer almost always was something like "what else could I do with my life? I had to keep going!"

Find your niche, then find a small or a nonexistent market where you can enter and dominate 80% of the market, as if you were a monopoly.

Find a business that satisfies the three D's: Death, Divorce, Debt.

Most people don't realize that owning a home has all the attributes of the worst investment possible: it's highly illiquid, there's a high leverage, it includes most of your net worth, and it provides you with an average of only 0.2 % over the past year. And this doesn't count all your maintenance cost. I rather rent, and invest the extra money in myself and my own ideas.

So many legitimate funds that might have been better places for investor money... couldn't survive because the illegitimate funds crowded them out of the space.

A path to unhappiness is thinking the future can be predicted and controlled.

Perhaps, the only chapter that really turned me off was "How to get an MBA from Eminem". This chapter again shows that the author is a good writer where his creativity excels in a way. However, I read this chapter as sort of bullshitting (LOL). By listening to a song, you can get a MBA? Come on... Apart from that, this book is a nice book to explore. I spent quite a lot of time reading this book. My conclusion is... well worth the time and money spent!!!

Trading Beyond the Matrix: The Red Pill for Traders and Investors

After reading three "boring" books, time is just right to get back to my favorite stuff. So, here I am with this book after digesting an impressive interview between the author and Michael Covel.

The preface at the beginning of this book really spur my interest on this book. The author was inspired by the movie of "The Matrix". As a result, we got this so called "red pills" for traders and investors instead of "blue pills" as seen in the said movie. I love the said movie so much, although I admit that I am still very confused over the amazing contents. But, those days, the "red pills" did inspired me...

Ended up, this book caught me in different mix feeling throughout the journey of digesting it. First of all... the famous SQN as mentioned umpteen times in the book puzzled me more rather than strengthen my belief that a simple statistic like SQN actually works in real life. In my humble opinion, SQN alone is too predictive. A statistical stuff alone are just a guide and there is no way to prove a system workable unless it can performs regardless of the products, regional and any circumstances. The contradict part of it are the author's belief that we need to adjust different set of mechanical trading system for different markets or products. So, the predictive element is actually strengthen in a way that we need to "predict" the robustness of a system and we need to "predict" whether such system workable in a particular market. To me, I rather believe that products will change every single moments. Hence, the more a system adapts to different circumstances (regardless of products and regional issue), the more robustness it should be. If that is the case, is there a need to prepare different systems for different products?

Secondly, the author mentioned that: "The biggest mistake people make is to try to design one system to fit all markets." Well, I am not too sure about this. I would prefer to filter out the products while maintaining "one" system for the remaining products that I choose. As mentioned above, the more a system able to react to any circumstances, the more robustness it can be. Of course, we may not be able to apply "one" system to all products in general as the results may vary significantly. However, we have the choice to choose which products (with high profitable returns) to trade and which products to trade off. Again, it is all about "prediction" if we try to choose particular system for particular products. The contradict part arise when the author himself admit that: "If prediction has nothing to do with trading well, what do we try to achieve when we open a positions? It seems to be prediction." Sounds contradict, right?

Apart from the above two points, I actually like this book so much. The chapter on "My Inner Guidance" was surprisingly good even though I never believe in god. The author's relationship with Mitzi especially caught my mind as now I believe we really becomes who we are thanks to our grown up process. This brings up to a very excellent opinion from author at the earlier part of the book: "Every part is established with a positive intention, quite often to protect you from something, but you tend to forget about each part once it is established, as well as its intention. Consequently, a fear part designed to protect you from fear actually ends up bringing up fear all the time and producing fear in your life. One of the things you need to do to resolve the conflict is to go back to the part's original intention and give it positive things to do." As far as I am concern, god does not exist, But, the belief of positive thinking and raising our consciousness are so important to human beings like you and me.

Overall, this is an excellent book for traders. In general, all psychology stuff presented will surely help traders overcome lots of hurdles and tough moments in the cruel world of trading. The best part... the author provided cases of studies with successful traders sharing their journey with the readers throughout the whole book. Moreover, a UK friend of mine mentioned that the only way to get Van Tharp's psychology stuff is to attend his expensive courses. Now, it is all here in this tiny book (To me, any book less than 300 pages are consider not thick).

As a conclusion, I highly recommend this book even though there are certain points that does not sounds appealing to me as mentioned above. For a full rating of 10, I am going to rate this book at 8. This book further enhance my belief towards a better trader as well as a better and happy person.

Lastly, listed below are three excellent quotes that I think will be useful for my future references:

Entry by itself is relatively unimportant. Entry with your initial stop-loss is very important in setting up what 1R means.

Anything is possible. But, trying to be right is a sure path to disaster because of the psychological issues involved, and trying to predict is a path to disaster because, in my opinion, no one can really do it.

How do you think you'd perform as a trader if you were feeling "guilt", "shame", "fear", "grief", "anger" or any of the other lower emotions? It should be clear that you wouldn't do that well. You need to be at a minimum level of "acceptance" to expect to have much chance of successfully trading the markets.
