C.A.L.M. DOWN,亦即调整面对(CHANGE),坦然接受(ACCEPT),过去就过去(LET IT BE),以及管理生活(MANAGE YOUR LIFE)。

Russia 2010: And What It Means for the World

This is a book written in 1993. Frankly, I did not realize it when I first grabbed the book. I thought it is a book written in 2010 and the author will tell us everything about Russia in 2010…What a “beautiful misunderstanding”!!! LOL…

Like I mentioned above, it was my mistake in the first place. As such, negativity had existed just when I finished the preface. I knew that I am in the wrong place, studying the wrong book. It is definitely not the book I want. I am not keen on predictions, forecasting or any sort of outlook for the future. After all, I truly believe that human beings cannot predict precisely. Hence, what is the point of reading something which may not be correct at the end? The fact is… certain forecasting by the author was proved wrong in year 2014. With due respect to the author, I thought I went through tons of wrong facts and wrong information… although the foundation behind each idea may seems valid in the first place. Again, it justifies my points that prediction and forecasting may not have value in long run.

Rating wise, I am going to give 2/10. I appreciate the author’s hard work in producing this book. It could serves as an effective model for countries planning. Well worth studying for those who love this sort of stuff. As for me, this is definitely not my cup of tea.

Loopholes of the Rich: How the Rich Legally Make More Money and Pay Less Tax

This is a book from national bestseller with over 200,000 copies sold. Usually, such a claim would prevent me from touching it, LOL! However, I was forced to buy this book when there is an offer from getting another book I want. As such, this is how this book ended up on my shelf.

Well, this is in fact a simple book… All the complicated tax details are presented in terms that every reader will understand easily. Besides, the author did his best by presenting tons of case studies and diagrams which really helps readers to digest easily throughout the book. Well, I may not agree 100% with his idea. For example, the leveraging in housing estate especially for owns staying is very much against my principle. I already did my leveraging somewhere else. As such, I find no reason to leverage as what the author suggest, LOL. Cash is king to me at times… LOL.

The only flaw perhaps lies with the fact that this is a book which is based on United States. As such, many items and ideas may not work for local Malaysians. As I mentioned above, I was being forced in a way to purchase this book. Hence, I really should not complain much on it, LOL.

Overall, I rate this book at 4/10. The low rating is simply due to the facts that the information and ideas presented may not be relevant due to regional issue. As I mentioned above, this is actually a good book. Thumbs up for the hard work especially on the author’s creativity in proving such a “simple” book!

The Pursuit of Wealth: The Incredible Story of Money Throughout the Ages of Wealth

This is a long story... In fact, it is a real incredible story about "money" that range from 3000 BC in Mesopotamia to modern-day Wall Street. The late Robert Sobel was a very famous financial historian. Since I love history as much as I love "money", this book surely is my cup of tea...

End up... I had few dissatisfaction after went through the whole book. It is a book on the history of money. Yet, the huge dynasty of China was not mentioned even though the title stated that it is a story about “Money” throughout the ages. Come on, before WWII, monies was everywhere in China dynasty. Even though China was “closed” (not fully closed and not closed at certain dynasty) in a way during that long period, it is certainly part of the story of money. As such, the title itself a bit misleading. It should either be the stories of capitalism or the author might as well put a region on the whole story.

Apart from that small flaw as mentioned above, I must compliment the author for providing readers a detailed history of money.  Overall, it is a bit academically. However, the interesting part lies with the nature of money. To me, anything about money is always interesting. As such, I personally do not find boring in exploring the whole book. Rating wise, I am giving 6 out of 10. A nice work by the late Robert Sobel!
